Swim Team FAQ
How old does my child need to be to join the swim team?
We don't have a minimum age -- to join the team swimmers must be able to swim across the length of a 25 m/Y pool without stopping or holding on to the side.
I think my child is ready for swim team but how can I be sure?
We hold an evaluation session the first week of our pre-season. New swimmers should attend so that coaches can evaluate their readiness. If you have questions for our coaches, please reach out.
What if my child is not ready yet?
Plymouth Swim Club offers reasonably priced small group lessons to members. Ask at the office or contact Ashley for details.
Do I need to be a club member to join the team?
Our team is for members of the Plymouth Swim Club. Membership details can be found on the Plymouth Swim Club website. The fee varies depending on how many family members join.
When does the season begin?
We start pre-season training right after Memorial Day. The first 2 weeks are usually indoors at the local high school. The outdoor practices begin once Colonial School District lets out for the summer.
When are the practices?
We have morning practices M-F 9-10:30 am after school lets out, sometimes this is shorter for younger kids and new swimmers. Evening practices will be M-TH 7-8:30 pm younger and new swimmers usually swim for the first hour only.
(There is no practice on the Wednesday nights if we have a meet, and no Tuesday AM practice if we have a JV morning meet that day).
What if we can't make it to all of the practices?
Everyone has times where they go on vacation, play summer ball, or just need a break sometimes -- it's summer! There is no minimum number of practices per week to participate on the team, although the more the swimmer attends the more their skills improve. Meet participation is not dependent on a minimum practice attendance.
Can I just drop my child off for practice?
Children fourteen and under must be accompanied on the pool grounds by a designated responsible club member.
How much does it cost to join the team?
$125 for the first swimmer. Families with 2 or more swimmers pay $220. This fee helps cover League fees, coaches & lifeguard salaries, team picnic, etc.
We will be away for part of the summer, do you prorate the fee?
No, there is a flat fee for team registration.
When are the swim meets?
Swim meets are four Tuesday mornings (for kids up to 14 years old), and five Wednesday evenings (for ages 6-18) . Our schedule will have a mix of home and away meets, these start mid June. Even the new swimmers are encouraged to participate in meets but there is no minimum requirement meet attendance. The season wraps up by the middle to end of July.
Can family members come to watch the kids swim?
Members are welcome during practice and pool open hours. Adults and family members who are not members of the club may not remain on site. The exception is for meets and some team special events.
What if my swimmer is already on a swim team, is that allowed?
League rules allow swimmers to participate in non-league swimming such as USA swimming or other swim training programs during the season, however they may not be on our roster and also compete for any other league or league team that operates during the summer season (SSL, country club league, Delco league, etc.)
